I think one Belize pun is acceptable before starting a blog on the country, right?
At the end of July I had the privilege of traveling to Belize as part of a Master’s program. Miami University in Oxford, Ohio recently started a graduate program called the Global Field Program (GFP) under the umbrella of Project Dragonfly. The aim of the GFP is to gather educators, scientists, and community leaders together through web-based courses and field expeditions around the world to bring about change in local and global communities.
I was given the opportunity to travel to Belize as a first year student to learn more about forest and marine ecology. With only 10 days to spend in-country, our days were packed full of activities to help us understand more about the amazing work being done to save wild things and wild places in this small (but ecologically diverse) Central American country.
Over the course of several blogs, I hope to connect our Houston community with some of the conservation happenings just a quick 2 and ½ hour flight south of us!
You may remember reading about our primate’s team work in Belize as well. Make sure to check out that blog series under the “Howler’s in Belize” category!
